When the food looks this good, the photography is easy…

If you've been to Swings & Roundabouts in Yallingup, you'll know the feeling: vines and gum trees off Caves Road, open lawns, the giant swings. In winter the rows turn this gorgeous deep red, and against that soft light, it's the sort of backdrop you barely have to touch. The place does half the work for us, really.

And we love shooting food in winter. The cooler months have their own thing going — soft, directional light, deep colour, lovely warmth in the tones. We leaned right into it, and had a ball doing it. When the light's good and the food's done well, the whole day just flows. No over-styling, no fussing a plate into something it isn't. Just letting good food look like exactly what it is.

That's the bit we care about most. A good menu shoot shouldn't make a venue look like somewhere else — it should make it look unmistakably like you.

A sunny winter day, red vines, and a table of beautiful food to photograph. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday.
